Over the last few months or so we've had an increasing number of enquiries for futon mattresses and futon sofabeds for log cabins, shepherds huts, beach huts and boats of all types, including canal and long boats. Anyway it seems that the flexibilty of a futon mattress is just perfect for these type of environments, both for fitting through the door in the first place (boats!) and for folding away to form a sofa and bed.
Well our latest customer to complete such a project, Steve in Norfolk, has done a fantastic looking job with this shepherds hut so we though that the blog readers would like to check out his handywork.
If you want to know any details about this futon, or Steve's sherherds hut, just drop us a line though the blog or follow the link to our website below.

Ah summer must indeed be upon us as our friends at Cambridge Futons have introduced two new futon sofabeds; first, The Palm, a three seater futon with a distinctive dark wood frame and, best of all, featuring two drawers under the seat to keep all your 'bits and bobs' in, i.e. bedding if your organised or the usual selection of games, magazines and remote controls (old and new) if you're more normal!
Secondly, the new Deco Futon is a two seater with a stylish looking 'art deco' style arm, again in a dark wood finish. The Deco features an internal metal mechanism to allow easy conversion, not just from sofa to bed, but also into a comfy lounger position, great for watching films, reading etc.

I know that all 'futoneers' are going to love Kitsch Attic. Louise there recently covered some dining chairs for us using an interesting collecting of fabrics, provided by us (although Louise can offer a choice of fabrics as well) to create an eclectic mix to go in our dining room as we wanted to stay away from anything too 'samey'.
Here's a pic of one of the chairs, we think Louise did a 'top job' and would recommend her if you're in the Cornwall, or Devon, area. Follow the link to her site.

Here at the The Futon Shop we've been lucky enough to have a short break to Normandy, in France, over Easter and, during a day trip to Paris, we came across this advert on the wall of the Paris Metro!
Great to see that futons are alive and kicking in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Looks like the French take thier futons seriously with the focus here being on futons for everyday use as a bed, a subject that we've discussed a few times here on the blog.
I know many of you bloggers like to check out some alternative sources of information so here's one to look at; The Futon Expert. The guy who writes here has been involved in futons for longer than anyone I know, he's been on the futon scene since it first came to the UK so his thoughts and comments are educated and informative. Check it out by following the link below:

To say I'm 'chuffed' would be an understatement....we've been looking at the ways to produce a completely natural futon mattress for some time now and have finally found the combination of raw materials to suit; it's taken some time and the result is not cheap but, in our opinion, if you're looking for a natural bed mattress, this will tick the boxes.
The Natural Futon Mattress uses a special covering fabric that is entirely natural being a weave of Hemp and Wool, then the fillings use a wool and cotton mix and natural coir bonded with latex; nothing added, simple as that! The quality, and make-up, of these materials ensures that the mattress conforms to UK fire regulations without the need for additives which has to be a great step forward. Of course, as previously mentioned, purchasing raw materials of this nature does not come cheap and this is reflected in the price, however, we are confident that the Natural Futon is competetive with alternative natural mattresses available in the UK.

This is a subject I seem to always be talking about....futon mattresses for everyday sleeping. Well over the last year or so I've really noticed an increase in the number of people buying a futon to sleep on everynight, you can see from our previous posts that we have discussed this point before! Just to keep you up to date I would say that our most popular everyday sleepers are the Traditional 8-layer futon and the Pocket Futoflex.
As a 'rough guide' choose the Traditional 8-layer if you want that 'firm but supportive' feel that a lambswool / woolfelt traditional futon provides, where you create what I call your 'people-shaped pit' to give great support all over your body. If, however, you would prefer a softer, but still supportive, sleep than the Pocket FutoFlex features a central layer of micro-pocket springs enclosed in layers of lambswool / woolfelt giving a feel that is halfway between a futon and a conventional spring mattress; great if you're new to futon sleeping!
Anyway, whatever your requirements please feel free to contact us through our website and we can help find the correct futon mattress for you, follow the link below:
